Ultimately, what’s better depends completely on the use case. If you’re in need of a quick recharge to continue your long-distance journey then you’ll usually choose DC charging (if your car supports it). For any other use case, AC charging will be the way to charge your car.
A general tip: match the charging capacity of your car with that of the charge point.

What are lamppost and bollard charging posts?

Since 2018, Shell Recharge (formerly Ubitricity) have been solving this problem by installing more than 10,500 charging points into existing infrastructure across London, such as lampposts and bollards. These type of charge points provide am easy, convenient, close-to-home charging option and are perfect for overnight charging.

How can I get the maximum range from my EV?
How can I get the maximum range from my EV?
Several things can help to maximise range in an EV, like keeping an eye on your speed. Driving at high speeds of over 65 mph will draw your battery much more quickly than lower speeds, as your EV will need more energy to overcome the air resistance.
Using regenerative braking is another way to maximise range. Regenerative braking acts as a brake on your car as soon as you lift off the accelerator, without needing to touch the brake pedal. The kinetic energy stored in a moving car gets converted back to chemical energy stored in the battery, so regenerative braking allows the EV to reuse the energy generated by slowing down.
Maintaining the recommended tyre pressure reduces rolling resistance and helps your EV to maximize its range. And defensive driving, which just means accelerating and decelerating gently to avoid any aggressive change in speed, can do the same.
You could also consider lightening your load, as too much baggage can reduce the EV range. Check the trunk or cargo area to make sure you’re not carrying around unnecessary baggage. Turn your air-conditioning or heating off when you don’t need it, or use it sparingly, and always plan each route to find the most direct option.
The Shell Recharge app will help you locate the most suitable place to charge on the go.

Fast Chargers (7kW or 22kW)
These chargers typically take around 3–4 hours to fully charge a vehicle, depending on the size of the car’s battery. You’ll often find them in car parks and supermarkets.
Rapid Chargers (50kW)
Rapid chargers can charge most vehicles from 20% to 80% in around 60 minutes, under ideal conditions.*
Ultra-Rapid Chargers (150kW–400kW)
These chargers can typically charge most vehicles from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, under ideal conditions.**
Vehicles that can take full advantage of 150kW+ charging speeds usually have larger batteries, which require faster charging to achieve similar charge times.
*Charging speeds may vary depending on battery state, ambient temperature, energy losses, and other power usage (e.g. air conditioning). Not all vehicles are capable of reaching 50kW.
**Same conditions apply. Not all vehicles are capable of reaching 150kW or higher.
