Meet some of the people behind our SkillsTransition programme

I’m David and I took part in the Energy and Net Zero Springboard with upReach, having been the first in my family to go to university – I felt behind compared to my peers. The programme with upReach has supported me with one-to-one mentoring, CV support and industry connections. I am now working as a digital underwriter assessing risks for major projects, from cargo ships to wind and solar farms.

I’m Gabie, and before joining the Energise programme, I was not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Although I had lived in the UK for several years, I wasn’t born here and struggled with confidence and finding employment opportunities. Through the support and guidance I received on the programme, I successfully secured a role as a Trainee Technology Consultant. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received, which helped me build my confidence and take the first step in my career.

I’m Libby, a student at Pembrokeshire College, who enrolled in the Shell Energy Transition Skills Hub through the Level 3 Enhanced Pre-Apprenticeship Bursary Programme. The Control Room Operator course helped confirm that this was the right career path for me, giving me the opportunity to experience the role and develop my skills in a safe and supportive environment. During the course, I completed my apprenticeship at Dragon LNG. I’m excited to finish the course and take the next step towards a career in the energy sector.

I’m Laura, a Contract & Employer Manager at Shaw Trust, leading the team responsible for the PowerUp programme across the West Midlands and London. I have been involved in PowerUp since the programme launched in 2024 and play a key role in building strong employer partnerships, supporting programme design and helping people move into rewarding and sustainable employment.
