How is your team supporting you during your apprenticeship?

My team has been incredibly supportive throughout my apprenticeship. They take the time to explain different processes and projects, including the reasoning behind them, and they give me responsibilities that help build my knowledge and confidence.

They’re also really helpful in supporting me with my university work; they make sure I’m involved in projects that link to my current module and are always available to offer guidance.

Are there any skills that you have developed that you’re really proud of?

Yes! The skill I’m most proud of is the confidence I’ve developed. Since joining Shell, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with people at all levels of the organisation, which has helped me overcome nerves and become more comfortable in new situations. This experience has really strengthened my ability to present myself well and communicate confidently.

Have you had opportunities to take on new challenges or responsibilities?

I’ve had many opportunities to take on new challenges and responsibilities throughout my apprenticeship. I’ve been trusted to support a range of projects and use my initiative to develop solutions to different issues, and I’ve been given responsibilities that help to develop my learning.

Each challenge that I have encountered has helped boost my confidence and supported my growth both personally and professionally.

Can you share how apprenticeship experience is helping you grow?

My apprenticeship is helping me grow both personally and professionally. I’m gaining hands-on experience across projects that make a meaningful impact for people, which aligns with my goal of creating positive change in my work.

Further, managing my responsibilities alongside my university studies has helped me build confidence, strengthen my time management skills, and develop perseverance.

Are there any valuable lessons you've learned so far?

The most valuable lesson I have learnt so far is to never close yourself off from new opportunities. Especially at the beginning of the apprenticeship it is so important to avoid saying ‘no’ to things, as each opportunity gives you new knowledge and experience that will support both your professional and personal development.

If you were to share the most memorable experience of your apprenticeship, what would it be?

The most memorable experience I’ve had at Shell so far was being in the audience for Wael’s global webcast. I had the chance to hear both the CEO and Andrew Smith, the President of Trading and Supply, talk through Shell’s recent performance and the goals we’re aiming for next.

It was a genuinely inspiring moment that gave me insight into Shell’s culture and the mindset I want to bring into my own work.

And finally, what would you say to students and school leavers considering apprenticeship path?

I cannot recommend it enough!

From a practical point of view, you finish with a degree, no student debt, a wage, and real work experience, all whilst having the flexibility to learn and actively apply your knowledge. Aswell as this you meet endless new people, get involved in meaningful projects, and enjoy many exciting opportunities and events along the way.

A degree apprenticeship is hugely advantageous both professionally and personally.
