Shell Recharge x BYD Charge Card Update: A New Experience Is Coming Soon!

To our valued BYD drivers,

We’re excited to share that we’re upgrading the Shell Recharge x BYD experience to serve you even better! As part of this enhancement, ordering of the Shell Recharge x BYD charge card via the BYD App will be temporarily suspended from end of November 2025 to end of January 2026.

Stay tuned for the relaunch in January 2026!

If you already hold a Shell Recharge x BYD charge card

You’re all set! Your card will be migrated on December 5th, and you’ll continue to enjoy the same great benefits, including:

  • £0.24/kWh in the UK
  • £0.15/kWh in Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland
  • £0.20/kWh in the Netherlands
  • Your discount period will be renewed for another 12 months—no action needed!

If you’re a new BYD car owner (purchased between Nov 2025 and Jan 2026)

  • You’ll be able to order your Shell Recharge x BYD charge card starting end of January 2026.
  • We understand waiting isn’t ideal—but trust us, it’ll be worth it!

Here’s how the promotion works:

For current BYD drivers;

  • Please log in to BYD app to apply for the charge card.
  • If you are a fleet owner of BYD, please contact nbdeu@byd.com

For EV enthusiasts;

  • Book a test drive at a BYD-car dealer near you. Visit this link: www.byd.com/uk/find-store
  • Order your BYD-car at the dealership.
  • When you pick up your BYD-car, download the BYD APP and register your email address and your vehicle identification number (VIN), then leave your delivery details in the application portal in the APP
  • When you receive your Shell Recharge X BYD charge card by post, complete the activation process for your new charge card
  • Your discount will be automatically available on Shell Recharge DC network
  • Start charging and save smart. You will receive a digital overview of your charging session at the end of each month

Who can benefit from the promotion?

BYD car owners with a BYD app and Shell Recharge X BYD charge card can benefit from the promotion.

How and when will I be invoiced?

You will be invoiced at the end of each month. An invoice will be sent to the email address that is linked to your account showing the cost of all your charging sessions and transaction fees. Shell Recharge will take this amount from your account via direct debit.

Can I use any payment method (credit card or QR code on the charge point) to benefit from the discounted Shell DC rates?

To benefit from the discounted rates on the Shell Recharge DC charging stations, you will need to start the session with your Shell Recharge x BYD charge card or by using the Shell Recharge app.

How can I claim the promotion?

We recommend to have the BYD app and complete the application form to request the Shell Recharge X BYD charge card. When the charge card is shipped to you, you need to activate the charge card, but you do not need to activate the discount. All active Shell Recharge x BYD charge cards automatically get the discount.

What is the validity of this promotion?

The promotional discount is valid on the Shell Recharge DC charging network for a period of 12 months.

Where can I see the first date or the last date of the validity of this promotion?

Unfortunately this is not visible in the BYD app or the Shell Recharge app. We advise to check when you ordered and received your charge card, the date of your first invoice from Shell Recharge is a good indicator.

How long is the delivery time for Shell Recharge X BYD charge card from the time of ordering?

After completing the application form in the BYD app, and if you are based in Germany, Netherlands or Austria, please expect 7 to 12 working days for delivery. If you are based in the UK, please expect 12 to 17 working days to receive the charge card.

How can I order charging cards if I don't use the BYD APP?

Unfortunately not, we will need your unique vehicle registration, email adress and postal adress to complete the shipment of the charge card

Is it possible to order an additional Shell Recharge X BYD charge cards for the same vehicle (e.g. several drivers on one vehicle)?

Unfortunately not, a customer who owns one BYD vehicle could apply for one Shell Recharge X BYD charge card only.

Is it possible to order an additional Shell Recharge X BYD charge cards for the same vehicle when ownership changes?

Change of ownership can be accepted as you have registered your email address with your VIN on BYD APP.

How do I know my application is successful or not?

As soon as one completes the application form in the BYD app, then a notification will be send to your email account. Please check your inbox or spam folder for confirmation of your application.

Is the discount applicable on all charge points?

No, the discount only applies to the fast charging stations >150 kW at Shell Recharge locations. You can find these by using the filter in the app.

I do not see the discount applied in the app. What should I do?

That is correct, the discount will only be visible on your invoice.

In which countries is the promotion applicable?

The promotion is applicable in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Be mindful that we can only arrange shipment of cards to drivers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

I lost my charge card. What should I do?

Please go to the app to deactivate the card immediately. Call the Shell customer care team to intitate the card order of a new card to keep using your discounted rate on the Shell Recharge DC network. The activation process of your new card will be the same as before.

I have issues with my charge card. What should I do?

Please call the number on the back of the card and our UK Shell Recharge customer care team will be able to support you.

What services does Customer Care provide?

The Shell Recharge Customer Care team is 24/7 available for technical issues and can answer your questions in Dutch, German, English, French, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Spanish and Italian.

How do I start a charging session?

Some charge points will have different ways of starting a charging session, please revert to reading the instructions on the charge point. A description will be available on the charge point on how to use the charge cards and start a charging session.

The charge point doesn’t work and there is no one to help. What should I do?

Please use the Shell Recharge app to find another charge point or call our customer care. We are 24/7 available for technical issues.
