Summer Midday Saver

For a limited time, charge between 12pm and 3pm and access charging from 60p/kWh⁴ at participating Shell forecourt and destination charging locations.

If you combine a Shell Recharge subscription with the Summer Midday saver, you can charge from 42p/kWh¹ during eligible Summer Midday Saver hours.

Pricing for On-Street EV charging

  • For customers who select Smart Charging prior to the peak window, charging will automatically pause and resume after the peak window has ended.
  • A pre-authorisation amount of £40 will be charged by your bank to ensure it’s available for you to pay with.⁵
  • Customer Smart Charging operates between 4-8pm. Users who plug in at any time of the day will be given the option to skip the peak window.

Charging speeds explained

  • Rapid and Ultra-rapid (DC) charging is a great way to charge if you need to get back on the road quickly.
  • Fast (AC) charging takes longer but can still charge your battery sufficiently.

Do I need an EV charging subscription?

  • You do not need a subscription to use Shell Recharge network
  • The app is free to use
  • The card is free to order

How do I pay for charging my EV on the public network?

The Shell Recharge public network operates on a pay-for-what-you-use basis, with no subscriptions. You have two options, either pay with an activated Shell Recharge charge card


or with a contactless payment method. Choose whichever options works best for you.​

The easiest way to charge and pay is with the Shell Recharge app or charge card. The app and card allow for subscription-free, monthly payments. An active app and charge card has payment details (bank account, etc) attached to it. This means, no matter which charge point you use or how many times you charge in the same country, you will only receive one consolidated monthly invoice. If you do charge in a different country, you may receive separate bills. At selected charge points, you can also pay-as-you-go with a contactless card, this is easy too. However, you won’t be able to see live updates on your charging status or receive a payment receipt.

Does Shell Recharge charge blocking or transaction fees?

Blocking and transaction fees are not charged on Shell Recharge branded charge points. However, some locations may enforce a maximum stay limit (e.g. one hour), and exceeding this may result in a parking fine.

However blocking fees may apply when using selected charge points operated by Shell Recharge’s third-party roaming partners, such as Source London. These fees are intended to encourage fair use and ensure availability for all EV drivers. You can check specific fee details in the Shell App. In addition, a flat 35p transaction fee applies to charging sessions on third-party public charging networks.

Where can I access Smart Pricing benefits?

Smart Pricing benefits are available at participating Shell forecourt and destination charging locations. Use the Shell App to find participating locations, check opening hours, view charging prices and see available Saver periods at your chosen location.

What is Night Saver?

As site opening hours vary, check the Shell App before travelling to confirm availability at your chosen location.

What is Summer Midday Saver?

Summer Midday Saver is a seasonal promotion available until September. Customers can charge from 60p/kWh⁴ between 12pm and 3pm at participating Shell forecourt and destination charging locations. Customers with a Shell Recharge subscription can charge from 42p/kWh¹ during eligible Summer Midday Saver periods.

Do prices vary by location?

Yes. Shell Recharge uses location-based pricing, so charging prices, available savings and Saver offers may vary between locations. Check the Shell App for the latest pricing, available offers, opening hours and charging availability at your chosen Shell forecourt or destination charging location.

What is the lowest charging price available?

Eligible customers can charge from 42p/kWh¹ by combining a Shell Recharge subscription with eligible Night Saver or Summer Midday Saver pricing at participating Shell forecourt and destination charging locations.

⁵For contactless credit and debit card or app transactions at Shell Recharge, a pre-authorisation amount of £55 will be charged by your bank to ensure it’s available for you to pay with. For Shell Recharge on-street customers paying via QR code, a pre-authorisation amount of £40 will be charged. If you have mobile banking, you may see this amount pop up. When you finish charging, we tell your bank the real amount you spent, they deduct it and arrange to unreserve the pre-authorised amount. This process can take a few minutes to a few days depending on who you bank with.
