The scene cuts to Sam standing with Hot Rides crewmember call Lea outside her suburban home.
Sam: I really want to learn how you could got into motorbikes, when did it all start for you?
Lea: Just riding on the back of one and realising that I am just this small entity in the world. I hopped on a motorcycle, learned and from then on I’ve never ridden on the back.
[Visual Transition/change]
The scene cuts to Lea standing beside a classic motorcycle as the garage door opens to reveal more classic bikes in side. Sam follows Lea to explore her collection of bikes.
Sam: Oh my god!
Lea: I know, this is my first bike, a 1963 Vespa GL, eventually it turned into a 1973 Yamaha RD350
[Visual Transition/change]

Sam: You always like to go vintage?
Lea: yeah, it’s always vintage, just the fact that there’s a sentimental value to me.
This one right here is a BSA war department bike.

Lea: This one is a ‘67 Triumph C100
[Visual Transition/change]
Close up of ‘67 Triumph C100
Sam: So do you like that its quite raw and basic compared to the modern bikes?
Lea: I like that feeling, that feeling of one, where the bike is telling me what to do. You know I’m winding it out, high RPM kind of thing versus the speedometer telling you what to do. I can feel it, you know? That’s why I really love these bikes, especially, old pre ’77 motorcycles.
Sam: Tell us about Hot Rides a bit more
Lea: How it started was Facebook. My best friend and ex room mate, her name was Katie Sue, she was like “Hey Lea, should it be something where we invite boys and girls?” and I was like “no, lets just do girls for now, you know, lets just get hammered out for a little bit” totally joking. Between the two of us we actually knew quite a few girls that were riding. That was eight years ago when there was not a lot of women riding
Sam: Right, lets go and meet the other girls from Hot Rides.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Lea and Sam on Lea’s bike on the open road.
Sam: I feel like I am wearing more denim then Justin Timberlake at an N’Sync concert. It may look like I’m crying, but it’s the wind, I promise
Lea: Okay
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a montage between Lea and Sam on their bike, and other Hot Rides riders coming together.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam standing with two Hot Rides bikers named Adrienne and Vanessa. They are parked in a hill side, with a view of the town and sea in the distance.
Sam: Are these friends for life now? You know, away from biking do you guys hang out? Do you guys talk?
Adrienne: Oh yeah, they came to my wedding
Vanessa: yeah
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene changes to a montage of the bikers riding, then back to Sam standing with two Hot Rides new bikers named Mariko and Audra. They are in the same spot on a hillside, with a view of the town and sea in the distance.
Mariko: It’s been this amazing journey of discovering things I can do that I didn’t know I could do before
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene changes to another montage of the bikers riding, then back to Sam standing with another Hot Rides biker named Kateri and they are also joined by Lea. They are in the same spot on a hillside, with a view of the town and sea in the distance.
Kateri: Even from when I was riding a scooter, which I did for many years, I was always like, In my mind I’m a motorcycle chick, but just I’m a lame scooter chick.
I was afraid of it, so the process of learning was really cool because you get to demystify something that like, belongs to someone else, you know what I mean?
Sam: Do you have any kind of dream rides?
Lea: The annual Normandy ride, most of them are global tours for enthusiasts, but get to go through the hills of Normandy
Kateri: I was luck enough to go to Morocco recently, we encountered this huge group of people on these adventure-touring bikes and they were doing the whole length of the country and back. And so I think that would be amazing.
Sam: and now I guess its having girls like you two, come and join groups like this where you get to meet different people
[Visual Transition/change]
As Sam talks the scene cuts to shots of the crew with each other, laughing and socialising. And then back to them standing on the hillside.
Lea: Yeah, that’s what Hot Rides is to me, it just opened up a lot more relationships that I hold dear.
Sam: great to meet you, thank you so much
Lea: thank you for having me
Sam: no thank you for having me!
[Laughter]

The scene cuts to Sam standing with Sam Torres in a show room of low rider cars.
Sam: What a great way to meet you outside, you’re going to have to help me with some of the low-riding lingo. Those cars were Hopping?
Sam Torres: yes.. they’re call hoppers. They hop for certain inches to win prizes, money, you know…
[Visual Transition/change]
As Sam Torres speak the scene cuts to shots of car “hopping” and back to the two men talking.

Sam: how did you get into low riding?
Sam Torres: you know my brothers used to have Low-Riders when I was a kid.
My cousins, family, uncles, friends, they all had low-riders ever since I was a little boy. That’s it man, I got a bike at home, I can start working on a low-rider bike.
And that’s where I started; I want to say it’s almost in the blood.
Sam: Is it a welcoming community? If I turned up…
[Visual Transition/change]
As Sam Torres speaks shots of LA, the convention crowds, and people interacting around low-rider cars appear.
Sam Torres: you know what? There is no borders …there’s no borders in the low-riders community
If you sit down, you know, and start talking about this car, its almost like a dream in your mind. It’s a piece of art that you have in your mind, that you’re creating murals, graphics, interior work, we kind of go through all that and create all that first.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to hundreds of cars in the convention centre, there are close ups of some very colourful vehicles and skilful artwork.
[Background Music]
Hip-hop sound track starts playing again.
Sam: Torres Empire, what exactly is it?
Sam Torres: It’s a car club, it’s a family, it’s a shop, you know, it’s a show
You know it’s a long story, and I’d hate to go into a long story, but as a little boy, I remember always telling everybody that I was going to so the biggest low-rider show in the world, and I couldn’t wait to get older.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam Torres with people at the convention centre and car shots.
Sam Torres: We have over 1200 cars, maybe a good 500 cars on the waiting list. You know we have the biggest hop ever. In this industry there has never been any hops bigger than the hops that we have at our show
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam and Sam Torres in showroom
Sam: Where did it actually start? Because, my outsider view originally was as you said, maybe more aggressive, LA street scene…
Sam Torres: I got to say that California is the capital of low-riding. We want other people to come in and be part of our community, we want it to grow. It ain’t no good if it don’t grow, that why I try and involve the kids as much as I can.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to kids in mini low rider vehicles and enjoying themselves at the show.
[Visual Transition/change]
There are close up shots of artwork on vehicles and glassy, colourful paintwork.
It cuts back and forth between the cars and the two men.
Sam Torres: The low-riding industry, you may see some cars almost with the same paint, same colour and scheme, but they’re not, they’re like fingerprints you know. When put two fingerprints together, they look very much alike, but when you start following they have different lines, different patterns work and that’s the way it is with the low-rider too.
Sam Torres: You really don’t get all the money you put into your car back, you know you can go to a show, you can get trophies, you can get plaques, you might get a couple of hundred dollars here are there. All the thousands you put into there, you definitely aren’t going to get it bad. So it has to be something with love, it has to be something you want to do out of your heart.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene transitions to Sam and Sam Torres driving in a metallic blue low rider;
The pull up outside Sam Torres’s private garage at home, the two men walk in to view the cars. Sam is admiring the cars.
Sam: Oh my god, I am so jealous! How do I move into your house and live your life?
[Laughter]
Sam: I now want to desperately be a low rider
[Laughter]
Sam: it’s amazing, I feel like today I’ve learnt so much that I feel like an honorary low-rider maybe? Just? So I feel like I should take one of these back to London with me ??
Sam Torres: This is the part where I tell you it’s been a pleasure meeting you, and its time for you to go.
[Laughter]
Sam: Leave? I thought I was doing so well?
Sam Torres: Oh you did so good today, yeah, but I guess its time to go…
Sam: It’s been a pleasure to meet you, thank you so much!
Sam Torres: Thank you so much.

Montage of old classic cars at the event
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam standing beside his red classic car, you can see Windsor Castle in the background. As he speaks there are shots of other classic cars.
Sam: what an unbelievable way to arrive at this event
We’ve got line ups of Ferrari’s, Jaguars, Aston Martins and I’ve been told there are even more rare and special cars closer towards the castle.
Let’s go check them out.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a man named Keith standing beside his Aston Martin.
Sam: Keith fantastic to meet you, we are sat behind your very good-looking car over there, tell us a little bit about it.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to both men sitting beside the car, as they talk about it there are close up shots of the vehicle.
Keith: Well, it’s a 1981 Aston Martin V8
Sam: and you’re part of the Aston Martin owners club
Keith: That’s right, yeah
It’s a very useful club to be in from a technical point of view as well as social point of view.
People are individuals; some people will take these cars apart with a nail file and put them back together again. Other people just take their cars into the garage and are more interested in the social stuff. There is not an identikit type of person, all backgrounds, all walks of life.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to multiple shots of different Aston Martins.
Keith: Today there are a hundred Aston Martins here, roughly one for each year the marks been around
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to people at the event; we see the castle, soldiers, and many classic cars.
Sam: I know I say this a lot … Wow… This is unreal!
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a man named Gregor standing beside his classic car.
Sam: Gregor, fantastic to meet you. What makes this concourse different?
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to both men sitting in the classic car.
Gregor: It’s Windsor; it’s her Majesty’s home. The collection of cars, it’s absolutely unique. I think its fair to say the greatest cars in the world come to Windsor.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a man named Jonathan standing beside 1974 Lamborghini Countash.
Jonathan: 1974 Lamborghini Countash. If you were a kid in 1974, and I was, this is what you dreamt of. This is what you’d have a little toy car of. And it was the fastest car in the world.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to both men standing beside the car and shots of the car and people at the event.
Sam: What do you find of the classic car world? Is it an inclusive world? Is there a family feel?
Jonathan: As human’s I think we all feel the need to belong to some kind of group, some kind of community. Classic cars are no different in that respect.
It’s definitely a community that brings people together.
Sure you have the odd reclusive collector, but on the whole the success of events like this or Goodwood for example, show you that car collectors, like most people, love getting together and having a good chat about their shared passion.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a man named Sam and a female standing beside a very old looking classic car.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam our presenter and Sam our car collector talking beside the car.
Sam Collector: so, what I’ve found is that the cars bring the collectors together.
An the collectors themselves are very gracious and generous and forthcoming with their knowledge and information, and they’re willing to be helpful.
So I found there to be a collegiality that I enjoy very very much.
It’s just a fascinating experience for me.
[visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to a montage of the event, the cars and people and castle background.
The scene then cuts back to Sam and Gregor sitting in Gregor’s classic car.
Gregor: Definitely a world community and with events similar to this in India, in the Middle East now … There is a community of collectors that are supporting a lot of these events. And, yes, it does feel like being part of a great tour.

Scene cuts to a montage of the event, and end on a still of a classic car.

Scene cuts to Sam interviewing a man named Martin. As they talk the scene cuts to shots of the event, people milling about, looking at cars. There are lots of shots of American Hot Rods.
Sam: Tell us, what is Good Guys? How did it come about?
Marc: Well Good Guys is a Hot Rod community; it’s an association my father started. Every level of car person is here today. I grew up going to these things with my Mom and dad before Good Guys, so it’s all family, the cars are what bring us together and the people is what it’s all about.
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to Sam sitting with an older man name Bill in his classic red Ford Deluxe.
As they talk the scene cuts to shots of the event, people milling about, looking at cars. There are lots of shots of American Hot Rods.
Sam: And how did you get into Hot Rods? Where does that passion begin?
Bill: Well I got 14 or 15 and I decided I really kind of like things mechanical
I brought my first mode, a Ford, it was a deluxe roadster. I mean those cars today are thousands of dollars. I paid $10.
Sam: It was always Hot Rods then?
Bill: Only by necessity; because you buy and old clunker and you fix it up and you make it go faster.
You drop the front end, or you put big tyres on the back and you make it a little different to all the rest of the clunkers on the street.
In the day, growing up, we hot them up and made them go faster… and you know these guys in Detroit that make cars? They don’t know what their doing. I mean, you ask a 14-year-old kid, he’s the expert.
Sam: You built this car, didn’t you?
[Visual Transition/change]
Scene cuts to shots of Bill’s classic car as he talks about it.
Bill: I built this car; yes I started with some steel rails that I brought at this steel shop. The body we got off eBay.

[Visual Transition/change]

Sam: I’d love to find out more about your beautiful car that you’ve got here. It looks amazing, I have to say I love this pink stripes.
Lee: The car is really good; take it pretty much anywhere
Sam: Are you a little bit obsessive about the cleanliness? ...
Lee: I can be
Sam: yeah I got that sense
[Laughter]
Lee: When I first brought it, the paint it was so old, it looked grey in colour. In polishing it as long as I did, for like four hours a day… for weeks. I ended up going to the doctor; I couldn’t use my right arm for a while
Sam: Oh my god, so a self inflicted car injury?
Lee: yes
Sam: that I think deserves another handshake
Lee: okay, yeah
Sam: and I see your wearing a thunderbolts shirt
Lee: ah yes
Sam: So you’re a member of the club
[Visual Transition/change]
Cut a way shot of Thunderbolts logo on Lee’s shirt and then back to the two men.
Lee: yes, a member of the Thunderbolts
Sam: what are the Thunderbolts? What do you guys do?
Lee: The Thunderbolts is the oldest continually meeting club, in the United States. They’ve been meeting twice every month since 1945.
[Visual Transition/change]
There is a quick succession of shots of Hot Rods. The scene transitions to a man sitting in a dark blue Hot Rod. This man is Steve, and renowned, experience Hot Rod builder.
Sam: This guy here is one of the premiere builders in the world.
[[Visual Transition/change]
The scene transitions to Sam and Steve sitting side by side. As they talk there are supplementary shots of different classic Hot Rods.
Sam: We’ve seen some amazing cars today, some of which are built in sheds, and some as meticulous and amazing as the ones you’ve got here. Do you find that you’ve sort of built strong relationships / Friendships after spending time creating their babies almost?
Steve: Typically, people we build cars for they become close friends… we vacation together. One of my Hot Rod friends, I’m his son’s godfather.
You start off build Hot Rods, and the next thing you know your families even.
And that speaks for most people here.
[Visual Transition/change]

As they talk the scene cuts to shots of the event, people milling about, looking at cars. There are lots of shots of American Hot Rods.
Sam: Is there a worry or concern that people are going to move on and there won’t be people to try these cars?
Bill: no, there will always be car hobbyists, it just the type of car… 32 , 33 Ford Roadsters , I think that’s going to go away. Kids coming up today, I mean, can afford a Honda Civic, a used one maybe, and so that’s today’s Hot Rod.

Sam: So sorry… please help
Karl: I mean, a lot of the guys, you can usually call up somebody and somebody’s done something and you know…
