A free four-day festival of ideas and innovation, hosted by Shell.
-
2. When is Make the Future Live happening and when can schools attend?
It is taking place July 5-8, 2018. Teachers and their Year 6-9 classes are invited to join us on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 July, 2018.
-
3. Is the event only open to those in Years 6-9?
Yes, we have to restrict year groups because tickets are limited and these age groups best reflect Shell’s support of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education.
-
4. Where is the event taking place?
At Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, E20 2ST.
-
5. What kinds of activities are on offer at the event?
Young people will have a chance to watch Shell’s world famous Eco-marathon and take part in exciting hands-on activities and interactive science shows.
-
6. How are these activities relevant to my pupils’ education?
Many of the activities and interactive experiences at Make the Future Live are designed to inspire young people about science, technology, engineering and maths. Visitors will learn about the role of science and engineering in the world now and into the future.
-
7. How long will a visit take?
The full festival experience will take about two and half hours, but we recommend you block out half a day in your timetable to ensure you have plenty of time to get to the venue and organised into groups. You can state preferred arrival times during the registration process, but please note that timed tickets are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
-
8. Is the festival experience guided or self-guided?
The festival is self-guided, but we will provide teachers with an event guide, map and suggested route closer to the event, so you can plan your experience.
-
9. How do I get to the event?
- Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has some of the best transport links in London – for more details visit queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/the-park/plan-your-visit/getting-here
- Schools in Greater London may also qualify for support from Transport for London’s School Party Travel Scheme - for more details visit schoolparty.tfl.gov.uk
- Schools in Greater London and/or within a 10 mile radius of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park may qualify for free coach travel, which will be organised by Shell. There are a limited number of places available and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please note that priority will be given to Shell’s partner schools in London. See point 14 for more details.
- Please note parking is not available onsite. Groups arriving by car or an individually organised minibus/coach will need to make arrangements for drop off and pick up only at the appropriate areas around the stadium with us when registering for tickets.
-
10. How many pupils can I bring?
- Subject to ticket availability, you can bring as many pupils as you want providing you’ve registered in advance at shell.co.uk/mtfschools
- You must ensure there is an appropriate ratio of adults to pupils. We suggest a ratio of 1 teacher for every 10 pupils.
- A minimum of two teachers should be involved in every school journey, regardless of how many other adults are helping out.
- Please note you will be asked to split pupils into groups of no bigger than 30 upon arrival at the event to ensure maximum opportunity for interactivity.
-

There is no official deadline to register your attendance, but please note that tickets for schools will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
-
12. What happens if my school is no longer able to attend?
If, after booking your tickets you are no longer able to attend, please email ShellUKschools@wrglive.com to let us know as soon as possible so we can reallocate your tickets to a school on the waiting list.

No, admission is free.

- Visitors will need to cover their own travel expenses.
-
15. Will lunch be available at the venue?
Whilst there will be a limited number of stalls selling food at the festival we recommend that pupils bring packed lunches, as the queues may be long and they are unlikely to be able to serve large groups at one time.
