We’ve designed the Shell Assessed Internship to give talented students and graduates like you a real role in our business. We will provide you with the support that you need to succeed whilst completing your internship. The internship will focus on completing a major project with clear deliverables and outcomes.
Real Projects to work on
- Businesses identify projects that have real business need where you will need to make an impact
- Projects vary yearly
Supporting you along the way
- A mentor and a supervisor will be assigned to you to provide you with regular and structured feedback
- The on-boarding process will allow you to familiarise yourself with the company businesses
- An on-boarding event together with all other interns
Why we call it an Assessed Internship
- During an Assessed Internship, you will have a formal mid-term review and End of Internship Review with your mentor and supervisor.
- Following the successful completion of the assessments, you could be offered an employment opportunity in a full-time role.

What we look for

Entry requirements
- Degree - explore our Degree Matcher to discover which career paths you can follow in the Assessed Internship with your qualifications. When you apply, you can use the results from the Degree Matcher to indicate the career area within Shell you are most interested in. For all our technical roles, you’ll need to have, or be studying towards, a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification. For our commercial and corporate roles, you’ll need to have, or be studying towards, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Year of study - to apply for the Shell Assessed Internship, you must be in your penultimate year of study at a recognised university. However, this may vary depending on your location and university.
- Academic records - there are no specific academic requirements for grades, however we do expect candidates to have a strong academic record.
Assessment Criteria
Throughout the application and assessment process, you’ll be assessed using the following three criteria, which we call the CAR criteria:
Capacity
To see how well you absorb information, analyse problems, make fact-based decisions, and propose innovative solutions.
Achievement
To assess how you get things done, for example your drive, resilience, self-confidence, and organisational skills.
Relationships
To look at how well you work in teams, communicate and respect others.
