Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
“Creating the most diverse and inclusive organisation in the world will make us a much better company and is going to be a competitive differentiator for us in the energy transition.”
Wael Sawan, Shell CEO
Our vision is a bold one: to become one of the most diverse and inclusive organisations in the world. A place where everyone—from employees, to our customers, partners and suppliers—feels valued, respected and has a strong sense of belonging.
We've done a lot of work on diversity, equity and inclusion in recent years to create a place where everyone feels valued, respected and has a strong sense of belonging.
Our global vision is to become one of the most diverse and inclusive organisations in the world. A place where everyone feels valued, respected and has a strong sense of belonging.
We’ve set this ambition because it’s foundational to who we are and how we work. Diversity, equity and inclusion is a key element of our winning performance culture that will make us a stronger company. It will bring a richness of experience that will help us innovate for the future and better serve our customers, so we all thrive together.
We promote equal opportunity and aim to create an environment where people feel included, always subject to local laws and context. Our approach seeks to reinforce respect for people and seeks to provide psychological safety for all our employees. We hope these pages answer your questions about our commitment, how we hold ourselves accountable, and how we plan to achieve progress in making a meaningful difference.
Our goal sounds great, but you may be asking "what does it mean?"
It means that our inclusion strategy is about absolutely everyone. So whoever you are, and wherever you are, we want you to be free to be yourself at Shell and to contribute positively to our inclusive culture.
It means we recognise that each of us starts from a different place, and promoting equal opportunity and creating an environment where people feel included means breaking down barriers for all - including our four global equity focus areas (Gender, Race & Ethnicity, LGBT+ and Disability Inclusion and enABLEment).
It means we publish our roadmap “DE&I Pillars” and our guiding principles, which were built from hundreds of conversations with colleagues, so you know where we are today, where we want to go and how we plan to get there. We don’t have all the answers. And we’ll keep talking, listening, learning and improving our approach.
It means we have ambitions around diversity, equity and inclusion and monitor these on a regular basis. We also continually assess our culture and employee engagement.
It means Shell is a great place to work because we have prioritised inclusion for decades, with an ambition to continuously improve because we know we can do more. In 2024, our Shell People Survey, which measures employee engagement at Shell, showed a result of 81 points out of 100 for all questions relating to DE&I. The question ‘I feel like I belong at Shell’ scored 75.

Our Gender, Race & Ethnicity, LGBT+ and Disability Inclusion and enABLEment webpages share our aspirations and some of the things we’re doing at Shell globally. On each page you will also find a series of short videos from our employees, as they share their stories. And you can also read about our Employee Resource Groups, the role of active allyship and some of the DE&I awards Shell has won.
