Starting your career at Shell UK

The Shell UK Apprenticeship Programme is designed for school leavers and individuals who do not have a degree qualification. Instead, we aim to welcome people from broader backgrounds and experiences to help shape their career and find their purpose.

The programme aims to help you learn, develop, and achieve your full potential. It will offer you both on the job experience and formal development to give you the knowledge and skills to start your career, whilst working towards nationally recognised qualifications.

Your apprenticeship journey

Our apprenticeship programmes take 30 months to complete. Once you join, we will give you a real role in our business, offering hands-on experience working on a variety of projects, combined with formal off the job learning.

You will receive mentoring and support throughout your apprenticeship programme from your line manager, training provider, mentor, and buddy.

What we look for

We want to hire motivated people with an interest in playing a role in the energy transition. That’s why, we welcome applicants from a range of diverse backgrounds and skillsets.

What do we want to see from you are strong interpersonal skills and self-starting and motivated attitued with curiosity to learn. An ability to work independently or as a part of team and keen eye for detail with great analytical and communication skill will be a great asset to your application.

Apprenticeship entry requirements

To be considered for any of our apprenticeship programmes you must meet the following requirements:

  • If you’re studying A-levels or completing further education, you must be due to complete your qualifications before starting the apprenticeship.
  • Hold a valid passport/birth certificate/residence permit and a National Insurance Number.
  • You must have lived in the UK and/or EU for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date.
  • The apprenticeship you are applying for must offer substantive new skills and knowledge in your role.
  • You must not be undertaking another apprenticeship at the same time.

Leadership and Management Degree

If you’re ready to kick‑start your career and build skills that employers genuinely value, this degree apprenticeship is an ideal first step. Whether you’re completely new to management or already taking on responsibilities, this programme helps you grow your leadership, communication and digital skills while earning a salary.

You’ll learn how to lead people, understand how organisations work, and make confident decisions using financial and digital insight.

Delivered by Corndel College London, this is a full degree programme without the burden of student debt..

Real Work. Real Experience. Real Impact

Alongside your studies, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in one of Shell’s commercial roles, primarily within the Downstream Renewables & Energy Solutions area.

Shell serves millions of customers every day, operating across 160 countries so, you won’t just be joining a company, you’ll be stepping into a truly global business.

You’ll learn how major commercial operations run, build confidence in a professional environment, and grow your understanding of the energy industry from the inside.

Digital Leadership Accelerator Programme

If you’re excited by technology, problem‑solving, and shaping the future of digital innovation, this degree apprenticeship is an incredible way to launch your career. You don’t need previous experience, just curiosity, ambition and a passion for tech.

This programme helps you build the wide‑ranging digital skills that today’s employers look for. You’ll develop your knowledge across software, data, cyber security and digital product development, while also building the confidence and leadership skills needed to thrive in a modern tech environment.

Delivered by Corndel College London and awarded by Kingston University, this is a full degree‑level programme with no student debt, because you earn while you learn.

Real Tech. Real Experience. Real Impact

Alongside your studies, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in Shell’s Information & Digital Technology (IDT) teams, the people who power Shell’s digital future around the world.

You’ll have the opportunity to work in areas such as:

  • Software engineering – building and supporting the applications Shell relies on
  • Data & analytics – using information to help shape big decisions
  • Cyber security – helping protect Shell’s systems and customers
  • Digital product development – improving the digital tools Shell uses every day
  • Cloud platforms & IT operations – supporting the technology behind Shell’s global operations

You won’t just learn about technology — you’ll be part of the teams creating and supporting it.

Our programmes are designed for school leavers and individuals who do not have a degree qualification. If you’re studying for or have a degree, please have a look at our intern and graduate programmes.

How to apply?

Online Application

You start with preparing your application. Read the job description carefully. Focus on your resume and any experience you would like to include that might be relevant for the job.

Apply online and attach cover letter. You will be asked to answer two questions and state your programme preference.

Phone Interview

If your application is successful our recruiter will contact you via phone to get to know you better.

At this stage be prepared to talk about your motivation to join the programme, your goals and any past achievement you would like to share with us.

Final Assessment

Last step in our recruitment process for Apprenticeship Programme is online interview with Hiring Manager.

While preparing for this stage, re-read job description, and do your research on the programme and company. Do not forget to prepare and ask questions. This is your time as well to get to know the manager and their expectations.
