Shell FuelSave Day 2011 - We did it!

Get involved in Shell FuelSave Day

On Saturday 15th October at 10.00am GST, in 11 locations across the Globe, Shell set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Fuel Efficiency Lesson ever!

Over 500 people turned up at Potters Fields Park near Tower Bridge in London, on a spectacular October morning, to become record holders and take their place in the history books.

All over the world, 3,200 people came together; in Bangkok, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Allerød, IloiIo City and Manila in the Philippines, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, and Valkenburg to take part in something that had never been attempted before!

In London, the event was a huge success. Not only did we successfully set a Guinness World Record, but there was music, celebrities, fun, food and games.

TV Motoring Expert, Quentin Willson, and Presenter, Konnie Huq, hosted the lesson and warmed up the enthusiastic crowd. Specialist science duo, Dan and Jon, with the help of some volunteers, delivered the detail to create the world’s Largest Fuel Efficiency Lesson.

The public were then treated to a live performance from none other than X Factor chart topper, Alexandra Burke, and the lucky Jamamillo Family from London walked away with a brand new Fiat 500 Twin Air, after they won the Fastest Finger First competition live at the event.

After the World Record had been officially announced at 11.30, the designated Guinness World Record adjudicator, Amarilis Whitty, handed over the certificate, and shared how impressed she was with the nature of the event; "As World Record attempts go, this is one of the most informative I've witnessed!”

Quentin Willson was also truly proud of Shell’s achievement on the day, “I am passionate about helping people understand just how easy it is to save fuel and money; today has been unique, fun and educational at the same time and the point is we are really helping to make a difference to people’s pockets. If they know how to save fuel – they will also understand they can save money. The fact that together, we have all helped to set a World Record in the process, is even better.”

Around the world – the record breaking moment in the other 10 locations was equally momentous. Take a look here to see some of the pictures and fun from the day - and to everyone who helped us set a new World Record – Thank you!
