Training for teachers

Supporting the teaching of science

Creating Awareness of Science And Developing Education (CASCADE)  is a programme designed to help trainee teachers extend their portfolio of teaching styles and support them with delivering the Science Enquiry strand of the National Curriculum.

Shell Education Service CASCADE days have been recognised as a valuable part of teacher training courses.  As such, they are now integrated into the course at 12 Universities across the UK.

CASCADE Days have been proven and the technique has been used successfully with students from several universities.  Students comments below:

…it’s given me so much confidence in practical science…

…useful as my specialty is Key Stage 1 and I ran KS2 sessions…

“[The workshop] has enabled me to think deeper about the teaching and learning of science, in particular the importance of investigation."

"Ultimately my confidence in teaching science has developed and I thus feel more able to develop children’s ideas and learn along with the children I teach.”

CASCADE days have been run with students from many institutions including Kings College, London and the Universities of Aberdeen, Sheffield Hallam and Warwick.
