Introduction
Exploration & Production's UK base is in Aberdeen, where we directly and indirectly employ around 6,500 people, both onshore and offshore. Shell was one of the first companies to develop oil and gas fields in the North Sea, and we have invested steadily there since 1965.
All of our UK oil and gas production comes from the North Sea. In the Atlantic, we also have non-operating interest west of the Shetlands, including the Clair and Loyal fields. There are Shell gas processing plants at St Fergus and Fife in Scotland.
In 2008 we brought four new North Sea fields onstream with our partners and we are investing some £350 million in a five-year project to rejuvenate and extend the life of two onshore gas processing plants.
