Our HSSE function is driven by the needs of the business and is integral to our activities around the world. Due to the diverse nature of the HSSE function, graduates will be exposed to numerous cultural and regulatory scenarios influencing business operations in a wide range of countries.
QHSSE Advisor
The Role:
The recent merging of Shell Haven, a major Control of major accident hazards site, with Shell Distribution organisation has resulted in the need for a QHSSE Advisor to oversee the planning and delivery of a number of engineering projects, including:
- Building a new jetty to receive incoming product
- Demolition of the bitumen plant
- Relocation of the control room
Position Responsibilities
- Support facilities, engineering and order fulfillment in the achievement of significant, sustainable improvements in HSE performance and the development of a pro-active HSE culture.
- Give up to date advice and information to Facilities on current developments relating to HSE issues.
- Support the implementation of the HSSE Improvement Plan.
- Investigate incidents as required, including Tripod analysis as appropriate.
- Provide HSE expertise to projects at all UK / Nordics Terminals.
- Participate / lead audits as required.
- Provide HSE awareness training as required.
- Support the Facilities team with HSSE input to revising COMAH reports and replies to the UK Regulator (HSE).
Required qualification/skills
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have an engineering background Msc or Phd
- Posses a NEBOSH Certificate, the UK’s basic HSSE qualification.

HSE Specialist
The Role:
The role includes providing HSE support to operational assets and to functional organisations involved with Development Engineering, Project Engineering, Well Engineering, Engineering and Maintenance, and Logistics.
It is anticipated that time will be spent with the teams supporting most of these organisations to provide a good overview of the business and the HSE challenges.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist Asset and Functional teams to deliver HSE support and manage licence to operate issues.
- Assist Assets and Functions to deliver elements of the HSE Improvement Plan.
- Develop the data, information and analyses needed for both internal and external purposed to show actual HSE performance and provide basis for progressing improvement areas.
- Support incident investigations and development of corrective actions.
- Coordinate and support UK / Ireland HSE Manager engagement sessions.
- Working in a very diverse organisation with many different drivers that affect HSE performance.
- Focusing on operational locations where HSE exposure is greatest and providing support that will be effective in that environment.
- Identifying and addressing the underlying causes of any performance problems.
- Providing challenge to the line organisation where there are significant gaps in HSE performance.
- Understanding the complex legal structure in which UIE operates.
Required qualification/skills
The successful candidate will most likely be a graduate in a technical, engineering or scientific discipline interested in the practical application of knowledge and information to drive improvement.
